this summer heat climbs down from the sun
here's a beam to call your own
don't run to me if your kingdom won't come
it's a long way back to your home
you've dressed up so sweetly in your ribbons and bows
waiting for tomorrow with you mayflowers in bloom
when their petals decay, then you'll find
that you know the way
all the heart poems you choose give nothing away
it's just speed with nothing to lose
and so it fades
and open rivers race into the sea
but no kingdom will come
and it's a long way back to our home
